Frequently asked questions

Which old-school art styles inspire you, and how do you mix them up with modern characters?

My work pulls a lot of inspiration from Japanese Ukiyo-e and European medieval art—think manuscripts and religious iconography. I’ve always been fascinated by how different cultures tell their stories through their own unique styles. On top of that, I’m really shaped by the subcultures that are a big part of who I am, like skinhead culture and the raw vibe of football terraces. Music’s a huge influence too—reggae, ska, soul, Motown, hip-hop—you name it. I try to bring all of these elements together to create art that’s meaningful and makes you think. For me, it’s all about exploring the ways cultures connect while shining a light on the working class, a group that’s often overlooked in traditional art circles.

Who are the artists or what pieces of art really inspire and influence you the most?

My art is completely inspired by Japanese Ukiyo-e and European Medieval vibes. Ukiyo-e just pulls me in with its bold colors, eye-catching compositions, and the fascinating stories it tells through those intricate detailed designs. What really gets me though? How this style fits so naturally with skinhead and football terrace subcultures. They all love bright colors, larger-than-life characters, and that sense of energy and movement—it’s like they’re made for each other!

Now, let’s talk about European Medieval art—it’s a whole other obsession of mine. Aye, it’s a world away from Ukiyo-e, but they’ve got plenty in common: vivid colors and storytelling that just grabs you. Plus, medieval art has this quirky sense of humor that I adore—those exaggerated people and their struggles? Instantly relatable. Especially when you think about the working-class life in the UK. Growing up in the '80s, I really connected with that whole aspect of perseverance and resilience—it’s like history repeating itself in some ways.

With my art, I’m trying to mash these old-school styles with today’s world. Yeah, the 2020s seem lightyears away from the days of Ukiyo-e and Medieval art, but the stories they tell? They still hit home. All the struggles, connections, and loves they captured back then? We’re still living those moments now. Those centuries-old stories remind us that, at the end of the day, we’re all connected by the same human experiences. Some things never change, right?

What vibe or message do you want people to get when they check out your art?

I love creating images that mix humor with fandom, all while shining a light on the long-standing connections these subcultures have with people and communities. It’s all about showing off the beauty, creativity, and resilience that make these art styles so unique and amazing.

What is it about mixing old-school styles with modern vibes that gets people hooked on art?

The visuals give off a cool mix of the old and the new, bringing together classic vibes with a modern twist. It shines a spotlight on the working class, stirring up a sense of pride and belonging—something you don’t usually see in art that’s all about lords, knights, and nobles.
